Job Description:


The Business and Community Services Division at Holyoke Community College is looking for a part-time instructor to teach Nursing Assistant and/or Home Health Aide training course at Ware Public High School in Ware.


This 260+ hour course meets for the academic school year during "C" Block (11:07-12:31 OR 11:33-12:58), four days/week. Instructor must be available to teach weekly during four days per week during this time block.


Instructor must be available to supervise Clinical Rotations four days/week during the February and April school vacation weeks, and/or on Saturdays during the spring semester.


The Lead Nurse Aide Program Instructor will plan and implement the course, and prepare and submit application to the MA Department of Public Health for approval. The instructor will develop curricula and plan course content, provide lectures and hands-on instruction, and evaluate training effectiveness so that students learn the specific skill sets and knowledge needed to obtain certification and to pursue a career as a nursing assistant/home health aide.


The instructor will need to become familiar with current state and federal regulations and will have to keep accurate attendance, grade, and skills information as required by the Department of Public Health.


At least one year of nursing experience in a long-term care facility providing care for the elderly or chronically ill is required, and at least one year's experience as a teacher, trainer, health care personnel instructor, or direct nurse aide supervisor.


Topics taught must include: Role of the Nurse Aide in Health Care Team, Resident's Rights and Responsibilities, The Body System, Anatomy and Physiology, Mental Health of Residents, Diversity, Intercultural Awareness, Communication Skills, Observing and Reporting, Infection Control, Safety and Common Medical Emergencies, Activities of Daily Living, Nutrition and Hydration, Self-Care for the Nurse Aide, Death and Dying.



Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum one year experience as a nurse in a long-term care setting. One year prior teaching experience. Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Post secondary teaching experience. Prior DPH instructor approval. Working with and assisting a disadvantaged student population. Ability to teach Home Health Aide, CPR/1st Aide, and Alzheimer's/Dementia care.


COMPENSATION: $60-$65/hr, no benefits


FUNDING SOURCE: Grant, Trust


START DATE: Classes begin September 2019. Instructor will be given paid time for DPH application and planning/curriculum development over the summer, as needed.
