The Associate Systems Administrator is a technical staff member of the Systems Engineering group in Information Technology. The Associate Systems Administrator is responsible for executing UMass Lowell’s technical designs and projects with maximum efficiency and uptime to further the mission of the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Engineering, the Associate Systems Administrator is the University’s front-line staff member responsible for the smooth operations of all IT systems managed by the department of Information Technology, and is instrumental in maintaining the integrity, stability and security of IT systems.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Requires 1 or more years of experience in a large Information Technology environment with industry-recognized IT certification, or more than three years of experience without certification.
  • HS Diploma or GED/equivalent
  • A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and ensuring the success of our customers.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in server, network and desktop systems.
  • The ability to analyze and comprehend various technical scenarios.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of core network technologies, including DHCP, DNS, WINS, IPAM.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the Windows and Linux OS and Active Directory based environments, including file sharing.
  • Pervious production experience and understanding of VMWare vSphere environments.
  • Experience with networked storage.
  • General understanding of storage networking technologies.
  • Previous experience or demonstrated understanding of Microsoft Exchange messaging technology, including internet standards such as SMTP, IMAP, POP and MAPI, ActiveSync & EWS.
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices relating to secure computing and data security practices.
  • Understanding of core web technologies such as IIS, HTTP/HTTPS, and SFTP.
  • Experience with message hygiene products such as anti-spam and anti-virus.

Additional Considerations:

  • Preference given to candidates with previous Higher Education experience.
  • Hands-on experience in a VMware environment
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • The ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Previous experience with fibre-channel networks a plus.
  • Previous experience with a large virtual desktop infrastructure.
