Description

Position requires preparation of lecture and laboratory presentations, curriculum review, and the practical instruction of laboratory skills in accordance with NAACLS standards. Subjects may include Phlebotomy, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Blood Bank/Serology, Molecular, Urinalysis/Body Fluids, Intro to MLT, Professional Development, Problem solving, Quality control, Lab Math. Evaluation of practical laboratory skill performance. Serves as a liaison between College and community health care facilities. Serves on the Medical Laboratory Advisory Committee at the College. Provides input for needs assessment, continued development, accreditation, and outcomes assessment for all Medical Laboratory programs.

    Prepares and delivers lectures to students on various topics in relation to a specific disciplineEvaluates and grades students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments and papersPrepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handoutsKeeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, speaking with colleagues and participating in professional conferencesMaintains student attendance records, grades and other required recordsInitiates, facilitates and moderates classroom discussionsAs needed, advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issuesPlans, evaluates and revises curricula, course content and course materials and methods of instructionCompiles, administers and grades examinationsCollaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issuesMaintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist studentsSelects and obtains materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory equipmentServes on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, department matters and academic issuesParticipates in campus and community events

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher and ASCP (or equivalent) certification as a medical laboratory generalist

5 years of related recent (within the last 3 years) medical laboratory experience

Teaching experience

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite (or equivalent)

Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students

Advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills

Logic and reasoning skills to identify solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience teaching medical lab students; 5 years of recent job experience in this specialty

Recent blood bank and/or microbiology experience

Experience designing and teaching using a course management system (CMS) such as Blackboard

Community college teaching experience
