Job Description:


The University Police department is comprised of officers whose mission is to provide Leadership and Commitment to the community, to enforce the law with Fairness, Dedication and Integrity, and strive to maintain a Safe and Secure community for all people regardless of race, color, sex, gender, or religion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services, the successful candidate will:


  • Plans, establishes, and monitors appropriate police and emergency procedures to ensure compliance with standard policies, practices, laws, rules and regulations; ensures the safety and protection of college employees, students, visitors, and property;
  • Working knowledge of all compliance mandates for campus law enforcement including Clery, VAWA and Title IX;
  • Provides leadership and direction in all areas of Public Safety. This includes establishing best practices in the area of Public Safety and Preparedness;
  • Works with student groups, faculty, and staff in order to develop and maintain good relations between the Campus Police Department and the college/external community;
  • Develops strategies that ensure that the department embraces a pro-active community policing policy/practice;
  • Design, establish and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to accomplish the College's goals;
  • Plans, oversees, and participates in appropriate on-the-job training of subordinates and arranges for in-service and professional development training programs;
  • Prepares and submits reports and documentation for the college and for local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies;
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with local, state, and federal emergency response personnel as may be appropriate to ensure campus preparedness;
  • Develops and maintains positive liaison with the local, state, federal and other professional law enforcement agencies and organizations;
  • Leads short-and long-term planning for the Campus Police Department; prepares and submits budget requests;
  • Oversee all hiring, selection and training of staff. Promote and encourage professional development activity and skill enhancement training for all officers;
  • Supervises and participates in the investigation of crimes, acts of vandalism, violations of the rules and other disturbances; the control and enforcement of traffic and parking regulations; the establishment and maintenance of fire safety procedures, and any other activities required to ensure the safety and well-being of the college;
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of emergency management and incident command;
  • Provides flexible, responsive, and high-quality customer service to all we serve, be they students, community or staff, and continuously assesses processes and procedures to revise accordingly;
  • Evaluate, develop, coordinate and implement all traffic, safety, access control and emergency coordination as well as coordinating campus parking services and security;
  • Provide leadership and direction to CAST team meetings;
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services
  • Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Certification as a sworn police officer in New York State or the ability to achieve that status within 12 month of appointment;
  • Significant experience in police administration or campus related experience;
  • Must be certified in all levels of Incident Command;
  • Applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills and be an experienced public speaker;
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;
  • Experience with instructional technology;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Master's Degree;
  • Working knowledge of Accredited Police Departments;
  • "Leadership Training" ie: FBI National Academy, FBI LEEDS;
  • Familiarity with the SUNY Fredonia Campus;
  • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.


Additional Information:


This is a full-time, Management Confidential, term-appointed position beginning July 1, 2019.
