Selected candidates must be willing to work either in San Marcos or La Jolla sites for full days and will not travel between the two UCSD sites on the same day.

DESCRIPTION

The Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research in the Department of Pediatrics conducts various behavioral-therapy studies aiming to decrease obesity in children, adolescents, and adults. The Center also provides clinical services to children referred from the Department of Pediatrics, Gastroenterology division.

The Research Lab Assistant supports the clinical research efforts of the division of G.I., Hepatology and Nutrition in the department of Pediatrics in the Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research lab. Under supervision, the Research Lab Assistant will assist in developing study materials, data collection and entry, preparing, setting up and conducting various assessments (i.e., psychophysiological assessments, computer tasks, surveys, etc), assist in interventions, assist other interventionists before, during and after treatment sessions, and other administrative/clerical tasks assigned. This position is 15-20 hrs per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience in a research setting involving human subjects and knowledge of HRPP compliance issues.

  • Strong computer skills such as word processing and data entry, as well as extensive experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate clearly, effectively, tactfully, and patiently in-person, on phone, and in writing to diverse population; including faculty, staff, community representatives, research study participants, and/or patients.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to seek supervision or clarification when needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in developing health education materials and/or research study materials
  • Experience recording psychophysiological measures including laryngeal electromyography (EMG), heart rate variability (HRV), and skin conductance (GSR).
  • Theoretical knowledge in psychology, health science, nutrition, or public health typically acquired at a collegiate level or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to drive and work in San Marcos(primary) and La Jolla(training, misc.) locations.
  • Must be available to work some evenings.
  • Must be able to travel various research study sites. Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance if using own vehicle.

  • This position requires availability to work some evenings. Days of the week may change in the future.
