Position: Interim Director of First Year Writing and Visiting Faculty in English
Starting Date: July 1, 2019
The appointment will end on June 20, 2020 and is not renewable.
1) An earned Ph.D. in Writing Studies, Composition and Rhetoric (or related fields) from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required at the time of application).
2) Demonstrated experience with first-year writing program administration.
3) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college level.
1) Documented experience with portfolio evaluation procedures.
2) Documented experience with assessment.
3) Documented experience teaching translingual or multilingual writers, professional and technical writing, digital rhetoric, and/or community engagement.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The successful candidate will serve as a visiting faculty member with an assignment as the Interim Director of First Year Writing Program. This composition faculty member will fulfill the administrative duties attendant to a large first-year writing program. The program, housed in Cal State LA's Department of English, employs roughly 75 Lecturers and Teaching Associates and provides first-year and stretch composition instruction to four thousand students each year. The position begins July 1, 2019 and will continue through the 2019-20 academic year.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Those communities may be defined through the department's direct engagement with the neighborhoods of East L.A. and the San Gabriel Valley or regarded as a global terrain, in which Oxford connects to Oaxaca and where ideas resonate from ancient Greece and Rome to the contemporary Pacific Rim.
