Reporting to the Vice Provost for Communications and Engagement, the Assistant Provost for Strategic Communications will work closely with the Provost and Vice Provost to execute and implement the priorities, policies, and initiatives of the Office of the Provost, and to communicate those initiatives to the campus community and external stakeholders.

The Assistant Provost will play a central role in managing communications for the Office of the Provost. The incumbent will help to create and develop a strategic approach to communications and foster the flow of information about vital academic and administrative matters between the Provost and the faculty of the University as well as other key campus constituencies. The incumbent will develop processes to identify the communications needs of a range of internal University audiences and to respond to those needs through the delivery of useful and timely information.

The incumbent will help to develop, implement, and monitor a range of Office of the Provost programs, and will be responsible for independently managing aspects of key projects and strategic efforts.

Responsibilities:
• In conjunction with the Vice Provost, develop and implement a strategic plan for communicating University policies and initiatives to the campus community, including faculty, staff, and students. Develop channels and forums for communication with key stakeholder groups.
• Promote awareness across campus of the resources provided by the Office of the Provost. Develop a range of materials and tools that project the mission and goals of the Office. Work with individual units within the Office of the Provost to generate communications, establish scope and timelines on key projects, and ensure a consistent approach to messaging.
• Write and edit communications of the Provost, including newsletters, presentations, reports, and memos.
• Serve as the primary liaison to groups of faculty and administrators on selected communications initiatives.
• Coordinate communication with internal audiences, providing support to the Vice Provost in developing remarks and presentations to key constituencies and streamlining the promotion of internal events.
• Translate university research and policies into communications for faculty, administrators, and other constituencies.
• Support the work of committees under the auspices of the Provost. Assist the Provost and Vice Provost in implementing the priorities, goals, and programming for selected University committees such as faculty advisory committees or administrative working groups.
• Respond to and resolve critical inquiries from faculty, administrators, and external organizations.
• Identify opportunities to use existing and new communications technologies to expand the reach of Office of the Provost messaging. Establish metrics and tools to assess and improve the effectiveness of Office communications.
• Collaborate with the Office of Communications and Public Affairs and other university offices on developing communications to various audiences and stakeholders.
• Develop content for the Office of the Provost website, including web design, user experience, and information architecture.
• Provide support for the Provost in development and outreach efforts, such as crafting proposals and case statements.
• Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7-9 years experience required.

Additional Position-specific Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated outstanding skills and experience in writing, editing, and communication are required.
  • Employment experience in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading strategic or internal communications processes in complex organizational settings.
  • Candidates should have a proven ability to manage multiple projects effectively, including developing timelines, setting priorities, and coordinating tasks. Applicants should be able to function effectively both independently and in teams, and foster a collaborative approach in working with diverse groups and with colleagues at all levels.

Preferred
Advanced degree preferred.
