Washington University in St. Louis invites applications and nominations for a strategically important new role in a University-wide initiative to develop policy and practices around the use of data in institutional analysis, decision-making, and reporting. The Director of Data Governance joins a multi-disciplinary leadership team in advancing a transformational program to modernize administrative systems and business processes at the University. The program, known as MyDay, will result in a set of standards, best practices, and tools to maximize the use of institutional data. Leading the development of the University’s data-governance framework and implementation plan, the Director will play a critical role in all aspects of this effort to ensure that the University reaps the most benefit from this ambitious program.

Position Overview
Reporting into the Office of the Provost, the Director will work across both the Danforth and Medical Center campuses to collaborate with data stewards, data owners, stakeholders as well as operational and IT units. The Director will develop, disseminate, and achieve adherence to policies and processes that will effectively share, protect, and facilitate the use of data as assets in planning, decision-making, and executing mission activities. The Director is also responsible for the development, implementation, management, and continuous iteration of a University reporting strategy that reflects the needs of the schools, faculty, administrative officers, and the University leadership. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Data Management and other IT colleagues to plan, design, and implement a new data warehouse for the University.

Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal experience includes participating meaningfully in the development and implementation of enterprise data governance, business intelligence and reporting, and/or organizational analytics in a complex environment; and providing direction and leadership to project and/or organizational leadership teams. We are seeking creative problem solvers who are able to influence outcomes through persuasion and effective relationship building. The ability to lead multiple projects effectively in a matrixed organization with cross-functional project teams is critical. Interpersonal versatility, vision, time management, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to succeed in sustaining trust, facilitating strategic disruption, and aligning interests for the sake of common goals.
