Job Description SummaryMontgomery College is currently accepting applications for part-time faculty members who are interested in serving as Achieving the Promise Academy academic coaches. Job Description

***Montgomery College accepts applications for Adjunct/Part-time Faculty on a continuous basis. Applications may be reviewed periodically based on the student enrollment needs. ***

  • The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as “TBA” does not constitute an assignment.
  • The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Achieving the Promise Academy academic coaches are integral to Montgomery College’s Achieving the Promise efforts. The individuals serving in these roles provide personalized and holistic academic coaching to underserved and underrepresented students, primarily enrolled in General Studies, Business, Criminal Justice, Communications, Engineering, Cyber Security/Computer Science and English programs, among others.
  • Attend mandatory training before classes begin.
  • Meet monthly with other coaches and ATPA coordinators.
  • Track students’ academic progress and facilitate weekly individual meetings (or at a frequency that is appropriate for the student); provide case management and documentation in the ATPA online appointment and report management system.
  • Provide academic mentoring to discipline-specific cohorts of underserved and underrepresented students enrolled in designated courses.
  • Refer students to Learning Centers and/or other academic support services when appropriate.
  • Analyze students’ records in preparation for meetings & consultations; advise students of scheduled follow-up appointments.
  • Document your work in WCOnline, the ATPA documentation application, coaching activities, such as attendance and content covered in study sessions, notes on class visits, and outcomes of meetings with host faculty.
  • Teach a series of college navigation and academic skills workshops focusing on preparing students to navigate Montgomery College (e.g., course registration guidance, tutoring, referrals to counseling and advising, and other student success skills development).
  • Teach self-advocacy skills, academic skills and non-cognitive skills.
  • Participate in staff development, workshops, programs, and administrative functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree; supplemented with one (1) year of related work experience in an educational setting.
  • Must be skilled in the use of office computer technology, including Microsoft Office products (Office365, Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive), and have the willingness and ability to quickly learn WC Online or similar student documentation software and become proficient using the Internet-based applications used by the ATPA.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population, including minority and international students
  • Interpersonal/human relations skills
  • Ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions
  • Ability to act as an advocate for both the student and the College
  • Ability to identify students' needs for support services and make appropriate referrals
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of College policies and procedures, academic requirements, campus resources, student life, and support services
