Description:

The Professor of Practice and Director of K-12 Education programs is responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing administration of degree and certificate programs in fields related to K-12 teacher education, and to elementary and secondary education. This includes oversight of the existing undergraduate Tulane Teacher Preparation and Certification Program, along with the development of a program rationale and proposal, and curricula and coursework for potential new graduate programs in teaching and educational leadership, in collaboration with faculty and the school administration. As part of this work, the program director will cultivate and convene stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, both formally and informally, will recruit, hire, train and evaluate both full-time and adjunct faculty, and may provide academic advisement to students in the program(s) and to prospective students. As a Professor of Practice, teaching and service duties are also included.


Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Masters degree (PhD Preferred) in Education, Education Leadership, or a related field
  2. Demonstrable knowledge and ability to collaborate with school district personnel, administrators, teachers,and community partners.
  3. At least three years of experience of teaching experience in grades K-12, along with teaching experience in post-secondary institutions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

  1. Ability to conceptualize, develop and deliver creative, innovative and rigorous higher education programs.
  2. Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, leading to adjunct faculty recruitment, placements and job opportunities for students and graduates, and periodic feedback on programs and curricula.
  3. Ability to support development and implementation of online courses and programs.
  4. Capacity to lead the process of developing a greater vision for SoPA and Tulane in the area of K-12 education, and to implement that vision through the school’s programs.
  5. Excellent administrative skills.
  6. Ability to provide quality academic advisement to working adult students.
  7. Excellent writing and communication skills.
  8. Ability to work well with individuals of various ages and background.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A PhD in Education or a related field.
  2. Deep expertise in teacher education and preparation, to include alternative credentialing programs and masters’ degree programs.
  3. A demonstrable track record of successful design and implementation of education programs.
  4. Experience with online education.
  5. Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas.
  6. Experience in a leadership role in higher education.
