Research Specialist II - Georgetown University Medical Center

As one of approximately 140 academic health and science centers in the United States, Georgetown University Medical Center seeks to provide, in a synergistic fashion, excellence in education — training physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, as well as biomedical scientists — and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research collaboration, enhancing our basic science and translational biomedical research capacity in order to improve human health.
The Research Specialist II is an intermediate title in the Clinical Research Coordinator Family who is responsible for a variety of activities in support of clinical research studies. S/he manages the research study as well as all regulatory boards. Working under the general supervision of the Manager and Principal Investigator to carry out study related activities, the Research Specialist II has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Submits study specific time sheets weekly to the Manager of Central Research Support Services.
  • Attends monthly CROO meetings and weekly study team meetings, completing and maintaining GCP and Human Subjects Protection Training.
  • Works directly with the Manager of Central Research Support Services to provide mentorship and training for junior level CRC roles (Clinical Research Coordinator, Clinical Research Coordinator I).
  • Assists in the completion of CRC competency checklists under the supervision of the Manager of Central Research Support.
  • Participates in GUMC activities to promote the CRC pool, networking and building trusting relationships with potential GUMC CRC pool users.
  • Provides CRC support to multiple departments and projects conducted at GUMC.
  • Liaises with sponsors regarding site management, data review, and query resolution issues, providing guidance and suggestions for resolution.
  • Provides strategic and operational regulatory guidance to internal project teams, completing and submitting case report forms on as close to a "real time basis" as possible.
  • Ensures all research participants encounters are updated as appropriate and within 24 hours in OnCore, CTMS.
  • Collects, enters, and analyzes subject data, compiling reports using OnCore, CTMS.
  • Provides monthly enrollment numbers to the Manager Of Central Research Support Services.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific or related field with at least 3 to 5 years of applicable experience; An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, and other basic computer applications
  • Working knowledge of FDA, NCI, OHRP regulations and ICH GCPs
  • Working knowledge of clinical trial contracts and budgeting
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with OnCore and/or other data management systems preferred
