Job Summary: The IT Technical Specialist III performs advanced professional IT activities for a specialized, complex assignment or functional area requiring application of an advanced professional knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures. Requires evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May supervise and/or direct the work of project teams or other lower level staff.

Additional Department Summary: The Programmer Analyst III provides research programming support to the Center for Advanced Public Safety (CAPS) within the Department of Computer Science. Duties include software design and development and data communications support. This position involves supervision students, and is centered on working with cutting-edge technologies and applications. A Programmer Analyst III is assumed to perform duties beyond that of traditional software development activities. The Programmer Analyst III must have the ability to: Work with innovative, cutting-edge technologies and applications, including those involving wireless data communications; Address non-traditional and previously unsolved problems that are motivated by research and market-driven concerns; Work independently on self-generated ideas; Direct, supervise, and mentor students; Experiment and prototype new solution techniques.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree; OR Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of IT experience. Experience with .NET C# is required.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. Effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently on innovative, non-traditional software and hardware development tasks, and the ability to launch new products that result from these development efforts.
