Student Life Coordinator IV for Student Success

Elgin Community College (ECC) is a comprehensive, fully accredited community college located in Elgin, Illinois, one of its most rapidly growing cities. Our district encompasses 360 square miles, serving 400,000 people, 11,000 businesses with four public school districts and 15 high schools. ECC was selected as one of five Illinois community colleges to participate in the national Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiative, is a long-term national initiative that collaborates with community colleges to help more students earn degrees, complete certificates, or transfer to four-year institutions to continue their studies. The park-like setting of our 145 acre Main Campus offers instruction spanning nine major buildings with beautiful views. ECC also offers classes throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago with more than 100 off-campus locations.

Function:

Provide support and guidance to students within a comprehensive program in the areas of student success, including but not limited to developing soft skills, college navigation, career exploration, academic support, transfer/transition, persistence, and completion. This position will advocate and work closely with students to address the challenges that minority men face as they navigate the educational system. Additionally, this position will build connections and partnerships with faculty, staff, and community members to meet the program outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a key liaison/contact to recruit and retain male students of color for a mentoring program. Responsible for recruitment, training, and accountability of students. Develop marketing strategy to encourage student participation. Create workshops, information sessions, field trips, training's and other related activities for the program participants. Collaborate with other campus departments and facilitate successful transition of students into on-campus initiatives that aid in student success. Monitor student progress and success. Coordinate incentives and recognition of participant milestones. Serve as a source of referral and guidance for program participants.
2. Implement a mentor selection and training process among campus employees and community. Recruit mentors across campus and the community. Develop accountability structure for mentor participation. Support, guide, and encourage mentor recruitment and retention. Build connections and engage local community members.
3. Develop success initiatives and plan events to meet the needs of the program such as Induction Ceremonies, Graduation Recognition, celebrations and program awareness activities.
4. Assist with program and participants evaluations, assessment activities, program reports, as well as maintain program records and documents.
5. Participate in other institutional activities, committees, meetings related to student success, especially pertaining to men of color.

Other Duties:

1. Perform other duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university\; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
2. Minimum of two years of employment in a collegiate Student Affairs environment.
3. Six months to two years; experience in support programming, training, group facilitation, and/or presentations.
4. Minimum of one year experience working with individuals from a diverse population including but not limited to low-income, minority, and first generations.
5. Knowledge of student recruitment, retention and support strategies.
6. Evidence of excellent organizational and communication skills.
7. Ability to analyze, solve problems, assess and coordinate events.
8. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
9. Valid Illinois driver's license for occasional group transportation.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Experience with Microsoft Office suite, web software, technology preferred
