Overview

The Graduate School is seeking an experienced business analyst to support financial initiatives and business processes central to the University. This professional will join the Finance and Administration team in the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School, which offers a challenging and supportive work environment. Engaged and dedicated staff members within the office collaborate to improve the educational experience of all graduate students at Princeton. The work itself is extraordinarily rewarding: it is multi-faceted, always evolving, and meaningful.

This position requires a high level of analytical and technical skills, and competitive applicants must be as comfortable independently managing projects as they are at fulfilling specific requests such as preparing ad hoc financial analyses or compiling survey statistics. Competitive applicants will be able to demonstrate core competencies across financial analysis and modeling, business operations and process mapping, as well as basic project management.

Responsibilities

Support ongoing development projects in a variety of ways including: preparation of fit-gap analyses, coordination and testing of development releases, documentation of system requirements, production of progress reports, and implementation of accountability measures.

Work independently on data analysis projects and create management reports that draw upon data from multiple applications and sources. Curate data to ensure accuracy and integrity. Use data visualization software and financial modeling tools to analyze and communicate complex data and information clearly and efficiently to diverse audiences across campus including senior management.

Collect, analyze, and interpret data relating to graduate financial assistance to inform review of existing policies and processes and to support recommendations for future improvements. Think broadly across office functional units to ensure multiple perspectives on financial support policies and practices. Work collaboratively with administrative and academic departments as necessary. Standardize reporting and document processes.

Conduct external research including peer benchmarks to support initiatives and proposals. Prepare comparative written and financial analyses.

Undertake other responsibilities as may arise to ensure timely and accurate payment and reporting of graduate student financial assistance.



Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to synthesize data in order to ‘tell a story’
  • Aptitude in analytical reasoning & critical thinking
  • Business acumen and sensitivity to cross-functional workspaces
  • Ability to professionally manage expectations across diverse stakeholders
  • Experience reporting quantitative data to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, including financial modeling skills
  • Understanding of basic systems/technology design and development concepts
  • Experience leveraging business intelligence tools to write custom queries, produce tailored reports/dashboards, and provide professional-grade analytics. All experience is valued, with particular interest in:
    • Cognos

    • Tableau
Preferred:

  • Master's or advance degree preferred
  • 3+ years' work experience
  • Experience working in higher education or not for profit administration
  • Experience working in an environment of decentralized datasets
  • Knowledge Microsoft Access and/or SQL
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visio
  • Experience with producing statistical analyses, preferably using R or Stata
