The Assistant Director of Residence Life – Operations and Functional Analyst is a vital member of Residence Life and the Student Affairs Division. In addition to managing housing operations, this Assistant Director will lead and support the software systems in the Division of Student Affairs. The Functional Analyst will advocate for the technology needs of Student Affairs and assist departments with their technology needs. The Assistant Director of Residence Life, supervised by the Director of Residence Life, is also expected to work with the Director and other departmental and divisional staff in establishing goals and strategies for Residence Life and Student Affairs. This position is responsible for the successful implementation of the goals and strategies in their area while remaining true to the mission and vision of the department including a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and assessment.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and modify the housing assignment management system, including: new student placement, continuing student housing selection process, room changes processes, and opening and closing processes.Manage residential damage billing process for all on-campus housing residents.Generate reports, using queries and other tools, on occupancy and enrollment issues; assist in the planning, evaluation, and implementation of new programs, services, activities, and marketing strategies to meet occupancy projections.
- Create procedural documentation for software functions. Provide training, direction, and support to all staff regarding administrative policies and procedures.Provide information regarding Housing policies and procedures to staff, parents, students, and other constituents in order to provide effective customer service and interface.Manage all outbound marketing communication for the departments (social media, web features, newsletters, information fairs, electronic listservs, flyers, etc.) with a focus on developing compelling content.
- Represent Student Affairs as a subject matter expert and liaison with Technology Services, advocating for Student Affairs technology requests. Serve as the primary contact for Residence Life data and business processes for peers in other Student Affairs departments.
- Provide functional/technical support for programming projects and upgrades, including determining business requirements, writing comprehensive test plans, and participating in and delegating testing efforts.
- Research and configure software systems to maximize capabilities or implement new features.
- Serve as the lead technical resource within Student Affairs and chair the Student Affairs Technology Team.
- Provide assistance in the evaluation, implementation, and training of software needed by the Student Affairs division. Contact software vendor to provide ongoing support and resolve issues.
- Maintain a balanced schedule of office hours for committee work and walk-in appointments.Provide written reports.Participate in budget planning discussions and the development of the fiscal year budget with proposed and revised budget planning; oversee budget lines for assigned areas and/or committeeAssist with coordinating facilities and housekeeping projects and/or renovations.Interpret assessment data for the area to guide future practice.Conduct focus groups as needed to assist in gathering information to assess the program.
- Chair Student Affairs Technology Team, Functional Analyst Group, Campus Core, Transfer Advisory Group, and Accessibility Work Group
Residence Life Budget
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree in student personnel or related field or previous professional residential life experience preferred.
- Experience with a variety of common software programs (Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS Visio), understanding of reporting tools and building queries, and an understanding of database systems required.
- Strong organizational, presentation and communication are required.
- 3 to 4 years of direct experience with housing operations, computerized information systems, and residential systems and facilities is preferred.
- Must be able to work independently; oversee a variety of projects and procedures; troubleshoot and solve problems, actively model ethical decision making, cultural humility, responsible management and courageous leadership for students; and work with parents or guardians.
- Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
Compensation and Benefits: Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
