The University of Virginia, Department of Pathology in the School of Medicine, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of James Zimring, MD, PhD. Dr. Zimring’s lab has a large focus on immunology in models of transfusion and transplantation, including autoimmunity. The lab also has a robust program studying cellular metabolism and biology of response to oxidative stress. This position is responsible for independent research under the direct mentorship of Dr. Zimring, using a variety of techniques including flow cytometry, PCR, Western blotting and /or recombinant DNA work. Experience with these techniques will be an advantage; however, more important is an active and inquisitive mind that is self-motivated and willing to learn new theory, techniques and approaches. Work will focus largely on animal models of human biology, and extensive work with mice is a requirement of this position. Duties will also include writing and preparing manuscripts for scientific publication; making presentations at local, regional and national levels; and supervising and training students and staff in a collaborative fashion within the laboratory.
The lab functions as a team effort and only those who are willing to actively engage with a group of scientists as a productive team player will function well in this position. Intellectual engagement is required as well; those seeking to know, grow, understand and learn will be best suited to this position.
