Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

The Health System Physical Plant is seeking a Master Maintenance Technician who independently responds to all emergency calls in the Health System Complex and maintains all equipment to ensure proper operation during scheduled absence of primary work force. Incumbent maintains all systems in an operational condition and provides a safe and comfortable environment. The Master Maintenance Technician is a Health System Physical Plant shift worker and would respond to a wide variety of service calls such as in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire systems, clinical engineering, and elevator entrapments.

This position will be working the below Weeknight/Weekend Day Shift Schedule:

Friday Night 11pm - 7a.m. Saturday (8hour)
Saturday Night 7p.m.-7a.m. Sunday (12 hour)
Sunday 7p.m. - 7a.m. Monday (12 hour)
Monday 11p.m. - 7a.m. Tuesday (8 hour)

Position Compensation Range: $26.44 - $28.84 Hourly

Shift Differential rates applies to this position ($2.50/$4.50/hr). Sign-on bonus of $2,500 for a two year commitment or $5,000 for a three year commitment.

Duties Include:

  • Perform installation, repair, and maintenance in multiple building trades including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical according to diagrams and manuals.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repair for multiple building trades.
  • Mentor, instruct, and coach those with less knowledge, experience, or skills so they are able to demonstrate increased knowledge or skills sufficient to perform job functions satisfactorily.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of jobs and time tickets.
  • Ensure all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Inform customers of job status and reasons for and duration of expected delays.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: A minimum of four years of experience at the journey level in plumbing, electrical, or HVAC trade, with significant experience in a second trade.

Licensure: Journeyman license or higher in one trade. Preferred: Master level license in one trade.

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the following background checks: criminal, sexual offender and a DMV check.

Physical Demands:

This job will be require bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing while working on various assignments. A repetitive motion will be required while lifting, using various tools and repair parts and repairing various systems.
