Vice President, Budget and Financial Planning & Analysis

Office of Administration and Finance

Exempt, Regular, Full-Time

University of Maryland University College seeks a Vice President, Budget and Financial Planning & Analysis, reporting to the Senior Vice President, Administration & Finance, CFO, and contributes to the company’s success by providing budget oversight and data analysis to support strategic business decisions. This position will support processes including budgeting, long term planning, forecasting, and data analysis to support business decisions.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Supervise (lead and direct) the office of Budget and Financial Analysis and coordinate with external predictive analytics organizations
  • Drive company-wide planning processes and ensure the financial plans meet the expectations of all stakeholders; identify all risks and opportunities
  • Direct the preparation of annual plan and rolling forecasts
  • Lead the analysis of financial and operating results versus forecast and plan, investigate significant variances, and communicate findings to executive management
  • Support monthly and quarterly business reviews with leaders across the organization
  • Direct and support the annual long range planning process by leading data analysis on each business unit’s competitive assessment, segment attractiveness, and strategic imperatives
  • Identify and monitor trends in the business and clearly communicate implications on future financial results
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide value-added analysis and support of strategic initiatives, including new business opportunities, cost-saving opportunities, etc.
  • Benchmark the company’s performance against competitors/industry data
  • Support strategic business development activities by providing evaluations of adjacency markets, assessment of strategic fit, and financial pro forma valuation
  • Provide key analyses and recommendations on strategies and other executive projects
  • Define detailed strategies focusing on structure, resourcing and performance
  • Improve performance by evaluating processes to drive efficiencies and understand ROI of new projects and capital allocation
  • Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives
  • Relentlessly search for opportunities to drive efficiency across the company
  • Prepare financial presentations
  • Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting from and accredited institution of higher learning
  • At least 10 years of experience in financial management
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets and other quantitative data
  • Extensive knowledge of financial reporting and analytical tools and processes
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, with expert capabilities in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent leadership, financial, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work cross functionally to drive business initiatives
  • Confident in dealing with all people at all levels
  • Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change
  • Ability to achieve broadly communicated objectives with a minimal amount of supervision
  • Ability to make decisions independently and to assume higher-level leadership responsibilities in critical situations
  • Proven ability to make data-driven recommendations with limited amount of information
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and enact change quickly

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MBA or CPA is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP, etc.)
  • Higher education experience is a plus and system implementation
