Psychology Labs Coordinator

Job Purpose
The Psychology Department at Towson University is accepting application for a Psychology Labs Coordinator. Duties include maintaining the Liberal Arts (LA) Building Vivarium (i.e., animal laboratories), monitoring, maintenance, and service of the LA building science labs, constructing and repairing lab equipment, maintaining and scheduling Psychology human research labs, assisting with college processes for ensuring classroom readiness, and contributing to department server management as experience warrants.

Description
Manage and maintain the Psychology Department/LA building Vivarium. These responsibilities include the regular monitoring, maintenance, and cleaning of equipment; the purchase of supplies; and the acquisition of animals for research. Coordinate service checks or repairs with Facilities Management or outside vendors. Manage human research labs as assigned by the Chair to the Department of Psychology. This may involve evaluating and assigning available space within areas allocated to Psychology, helping to assess equipment needs, and working with other LA staff, Office of Technology Services staff, or vendors to acquire, maintain, or install appropriate equipment or research tools. Possible additional work with computers and programs if skills and abilities support such work. Provide information and help to implement budget for Vivarium and Psychology labs. Manage the Psychology/LA Building fabrication shop and repair, modify, or construct laboratory equipment in accordance with faculty and departmental needs. Oversight of safety for the shop and all users of the shop. Collaborate in meeting collective needs of the college in cooperation with other LA staff, as assigned by the Office of the Dean. This will include training to assist with maintenance checks and occasional urgent support of classroom technology, assistance in the occasional processing and installation of replacement classroom equipment, and participation in pre-semester checks of classroom readiness.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, two years of work experience, and experience working in a non-human animal lab. Familiarity with e-mail, spreadsheets, word processing, and multimedia. Comfort with use of power tools in fabrication shop, Vivarium equipment, computers, and related equipment. Ability to develop maintenance and safety checks, make decisions on equipment repair, and decisions about appropriate use of equipment or facilities. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, department Chairperson, students, other staff, and external vendors. The ability to lift 30-40 pounds. Special work hours may be required in rare emergency situations. Good knowledge of tools and equipment, ability and desire to learn new specifications and functions of machinery and equipment on a continuing basis, ability to work with faculty and understand research requirements, some knowledge of safety precautions with equipment and chemicals and willingness to acquire more, knowledge of and willingness to acquire computer based technology skills used in classroom and labs, willing to work cooperatively and in accordance with established procedures and priorities. 

Preferred:
Knowledge of computer and software programs, especially those used in social science research, is desirable. Some familiarity, ability, or willingness to learn varied software packages and our computer programming used in social sciences research is desirable.
