Job Description:


The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a Graduate Assistant position in the Campus Life Department. This position will be filled in accordance with campus and department policy.


The Graduate Assistant for the Campus Life office serves as the evening /weekend administrator on Friday's and Saturday's in order to support holistic student development and retention initiatives. The Graduate Assistant will assist with event management of student activities in the Williams Center and support the Weekend Hang Out Activities. With over 180+ clubs on campus, Campus Life strives to meet the needs of all clubs through supporting their programming efforts. The Graduate Assistant will also work collaboratively to create purposeful leadership workshops for club executive boards. Campus Life supports the following areas that enhance a student's academic, personal and professional growth:


  • Leadership Development Program, Courses and Minor
  • Volunteer and Community Service
  • Student Activities and Weekend Hang Out Activities (WHOA)
  • Williams Center Management (Building and event management, room reservations)
  • Major Events (major concerts, awards ceremonies, family weekend, scholarship inductions, orientation support, major club and campus events)

Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as the Campus Life staff professional on Saturday's from the hours of 3 pm to 11 pm. Work two six-hour day shifts during the week.
  • Assist in supervising Weekend Hangout Activities (WHOA) events.
  • Oversee Campus Life's social media pages.
  • Meet with student groups to assist with event planning, program development and risk management.
  • Assist with regular daytime programming.
  • Organize Pep Rally for Homecoming.
  • Train student groups on Blue News, which is the student club portal and app.
  • Further develop with the Director and Campus Life staff a club/organization executive board training that includes best practices for onboarding, measuring impact, club sustainability, officer transition plans and reflection/debriefing exercises. Present our work, if possible, at a professional leadership or student activities conference.
  • Assist with major Campus Life events, including but not limited to, Family Weekend, major concerts, conferences, commencement ceremonies, community service fairs, leadership awards ceremony etc.
  • Continuously train student employees on customer service, building management, technology, and Campus Life policies and procedures.
  • Serve as one of the supervisor's for Campus Life/Williams Center Student Managers.
  • Assist with special projects related to community service and leadership.
  • Know, understand, and follow all university policies

Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Baccalaureate degree and enrolled in a Graduate Program in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education or other related field at a SUNY College or University.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize and take initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be professional and ethical

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Strong undergraduate involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership
  • Demonstrated social media experience
