ECU PEDS – Endocrinology is currently seeking Camp Needles in the Pines Counselors.

Counselor Job Description/Purpose:
-To ensure the health and safety of the campers
-To promote active participation in all group activities
-To promote healthy relationships among campers and camp staff

Requirements:
1. Attend pre-camp training or other assigned activities in preparation for camp
2. Comply with personnel policies for camp staff
3. Know each camper assigned to group and help him/her get the most from the camp experience
4. Actively participate in all aspects of general camp program, encouraging campers to do the same
5. Work cooperatively with other staff members
6. Participate in the opening and closing of the campsite and the camp at large
7. Live in a tent at the campsite throughout camp
8. Monitor food intake and behavior of assigned campers
9. Offer emotional support and guidance to campers within scope of role
10. Assure that group arrives at scheduled activities on time
11. Maintain necessary records and complete requested forms and reports
12. Participate in unit housekeeping, sanitation and care of camp equipment
13. Participate in group blood sampling procedures, assisting campers and relaying questions and concerns to Group Leader and medical personnel
14. Supervise campers’ meals and snacks
15. Participate in group programs, special events and night duty
16. Participate in daily assessment and planning of camper glucose management
17. Demonstrate adherence to HIPPA and OSHA standards
18. Supervise medication administration under direction of medical team and continuously assess for untoward responses to physical activity and medications
19. Recognize and treat symptoms of low blood sugar with appropriate documentation and follow-up evaluation

Camp is July 21 – 26, 2019 and counselors attend one day of pre-camp orientation on ECU’s campus.

-Nursing
-Child life
-Family medical therapy
-Nutrition
-Health education
-Exercise fitness

Qualifications:
-At least 19 years of age with enthusiasm to work with children
-Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
-Willingness to learn and develop new skills in a variety of camp settings
