Description

The UCLA School of Law is seeking applications for the Director of Externship and Field Placement Programs. The Director will develop, teach in, and manage the externship and field placements component of the Experiential Education Program at UCLA School of Law. The Director will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education to administer policies and programs that uplift UCLA School of Law's excellent learning opportunities for students and its strong commitment to public service.

The Director will work with faculty and law school administrators to develop and manage the three chief components of the Externship and Field Placement Programs, which include the full-time agency, full-time judicial, and part-time externship programs. As needed, the Director may teach the classroom components of the externship programs and/or other courses and related workshops. The Director will collaborate with administrators of the UCDC Law Program, in which students work as externs in congressional offices, regulatory agencies and other government and non-profit placements in Washington, D.C. The Director will be responsible for ensuring that students receive rigorous educational experiences in the field as well as high-quality faculty supervision.

The Director will work under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Experiential Education, and may take on a broader range of administrative duties within the Experiential Education Program, depending on programmatic needs. Minimum requirements include an excellent academic record; a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; established relationships with local public interest legal service providers or professional organizations; and demonstrated management, administrative and organizational skills. Candidates should be a member of a state bar in a jurisdiction requiring an examination; however, California state bar admission is preferred. Also desirable is prior successful teaching experience, particularly in the experiential setting. The salary and level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, year-round, academic, non-tenure track position. This appointment is subject to the rules and regulations of the Regents of the University of California, which are mostly embodied in The UCLA CALL and the University of California Academic Personnel Manual.
