Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and serving as a member of the Vice President’s Senior Leadership Team, the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students enhances the University's mission by engaging students in programs and services that help develop responsible contributing members of a global society. The Associate Vice President and Dean of Students collaborates broadly across the University with faculty and university partners to impact student success, persistence and graduation, provides a critical support structure for enriching the overall student experience, and serves as primary point person for University response to students of concern and plays a critical role in case management response for incidents involving students. The Associate Vice President serves as the second in command in the division in the absence of the Vice President. The Associate Vice President attends and participates in the appropriate staff meetings, represents the Division on various university committee and at university function when appropriate and assumes responsibility for other special projects and committee work as delegated.

The selected candidate will provide leadership and oversight to a variety of key student-facing units which include, Student Conduct, Health Services, Counseling Services, Office of Disability Accommodations, and Student Case Management.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises and directs all areas that report to the Dean of Students Office, including functions and programming of Student Conduct, Health Services, Counseling Services, Office of Disability Accommodations, and Student Case Management. Serves as a key member of the Vice President’s Senior Leadership team serving on various university committees, assuming responsibilities for special projects and committee works as assigned, serves as a representative of the Vice President in her absence, and serves as the second in command for the division.Administers the guidelines governing the Student Code of Conduct Serves as a resource for faculty and staff regarding student behaviors within and outside the classroom. Develops policies and programs to address campus safety, student conduct and discipline, academic integrity, civility, diversity and inclusion. Provides leadership and guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of student policies and procedures. Assures adherence to all university and departmental policies, and state and federal regulations and laws.
Responsible for management of the unit budget and implementation of assessment plans within the unit. Provides direction and intervention for students in crisis, working with the University CARES team, the Office of Student Case Management, faculty, staff, parents and other university departments.Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.Four to seven years of experience in Higher Education administration.Proven communication skills (written and verbal) with diverse student populations
Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Student Personnel or Higher Education Administration

• Experience in Student Conduct and/or Student Affairs

• Experience advising students individually and in groups with proven ability to resolve complex student conduct and behavioral issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.

• Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

• Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

• This position requires the ability to multi-task and work with diverse populations.

• Must be objective in decision-making and remain current on laws, issues and trends in higher education and student affairs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages seven (6) subordinate supervisors at Director-level. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
