Description:

The School of Nursing at Azusa Pacific University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean.

Azusa Pacific University is located in the San Gabriel Valley community of Azusa, 26 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Situated on more than 100 acres, the East and West Campus locations house the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences, School of Business and Management, College of Music and the Arts, School of Nursing, the School of Theology, and a new Honors College. Founded in 1899, Azusa Pacific University (APU) is one of the largest Christian universities in the nation offering eight doctoral programs, 43 master’s degrees, 14 credentialing programs, more than 60 bachelor’s degrees, 4 associate degrees, and 18 certificate programs. In addition to its main campus in Azusa, the university offers programs online and at six regional centers.

The School of Nursing is one of the largest academic units with 110 full-time faculty members who teach more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Nursing along with a teaching and scholarship record commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Previous administrative experience is preferred.



Responsibilities:

The Associate Dean of the Nursing reports directly to the Dean and will be primarily responsible for providing support for graduate programs and fostering expanded opportunities for faculty scholarship and research. Specifically, he or she will collaborate with the Dean, other Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and other university officials to develop, implement, and oversee graduate programs and provide creative leadership for growth and innovation in faculty scholarship and research. In addition, the Associate Dean will support faculty in securing external funding for scholarship and research activities and will promote collaborative internal and external partnerships. In addition, the Associate Dean will work closely with other university officials to facilitate the successful preparation and submission of curriculum and accreditation. He or she will also work closely with the Dean, other Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and graduate Program Directors on matters related to program assessment, faculty and student recruitment and development, and program marketing and/or promotion. May be needed to work at alternative Regional Campuses or Sites.

Level: Associate or Full Professor

Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in one of the disciplines housed in the School of Nursing. In addition, the successful candidate should have:

    Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and the community both within and across disciplines.Demonstrated administrative, analytic, and leadership skills.Experience with university budgeting.Ability to encourage student-centered research, scholarship, and innovative projects;Demonstrated ability to serve as the School representative to university, college, and department committees;Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to adjust to dynamic circumstances on an as-needed basis;Ability to maintain an active research agenda;Evidence of a vibrant Christian faith



Experience:

    A minimum of five years of teaching experience in higher education and demonstrated success in administrative work. Evidence of leadership accomplishments.Experience in private or public university or Christian university setting.Experience in developing, launching, and/or leading successful graduate programs preferred.Ability to integrate Christian values in all aspects.



Workload: 12-month contract. Responsible for teaching two courses per year.
