DescriptionJob Purpose: The Audio Visual Design Engineer Manager is responsible for leading a small to a mid-level technical team in fully managing AV Designs, Project Management and the installation of audiovisual (AV) systems to ensure compliance with project specifications and Institute standards, and to ensure that a completed system is delivered to the customer. Responsible for reviewing all project request and delegating them to the AV Design staff. Project assignments are typically complex, large-scale projects (Classrooms, Conference rooms, Auditoriums, and Labs) related to design/project management of audiovisual technology solutions in a new building construction and or building space renovation projects. . Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, training, and providing feedback for development. Major Responsibilities:
  • Manage a diverse team of technical resources to include reviews, assessments, and conduct performance management. Assist direct reports in the setting of realistic goals for career advancement.
  • Oversees and participates in service management in relations to AV Design and Project Management by monitoring and advising team members in fulfilling customer requests for designing and the installation of A/V components.
  • Work with the customer to acquire a thorough understanding of project requirements and objectives including, but not limited to contractual, financial, technical, schedule, construction coordination, materials, personnel, and scope of work. Work with departments to obtain and read all contract documents including, but not limited to bid drawings and specifications, contract, project workbook, subcontractor scopes of work, and construction schedule. Development of designs that meet end-client functional and budgetary requirements. Creating functional and connection-level drawings/design for video, audio, control, LAN and communications subsystems, including preparation of drawings and documentation.
  • Create and manage multiple project schedules and necessary resources for all assigned projects, including but not limited to AV installation technicians, control systems programmers, engineers, and contracted vendors, and provide those schedules to management. Coordinate activities with the AV Design Team, general contractor, construction manager, owner and/or other trades as required, as it is related to audiovisual designs, per the project design AV specification and product procurement in order to ensure compliance with design standards, support requirements, and the Institute mission. Provide regular reports of job progress to all stakeholders. Assist with, or facilitate, the ordering of materials upon approval of design-build projects.
  • Work with approved vendors and qualified subcontractors to solicit quotes that will meet the design specifications, making sure to work within the policies and guidelines identified by the state of Georgia and Georgia Institute of Technology.
  • Generate and/or respond to construction communications including, but not limited to: requests for information, any and all design documentation, change order documents, room readiness reports, or any delays which could impact completion date, including punch-list items, field reports, sign-off documents or other supporting documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work Experience: Six to eight years of job-related experience.
  • Certifications: Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or Extron AV Associate.
  • Skills: This job requires strong leadership and staff development experience and an advanced knowledge in engineering design and project management as related to audiovisual solutions. Advanced skills in design, installation of electronic equipment; preparing and reading blueprints, drawings and schematics and electronics assembly and soldering techniques are required. Ability to provide work guidance to others is also required. Exemplify exceptional communication, organization and leadership skills with strong experience in the integration of audio visual, video conferencing and closely related technologies.

  • Preferred Education: N/A
  • Preferred Work Experience: Four or more years of managing employees, conducting performance reviews and appraisals, team goal setting experience. Working with AV Design in higher education.
  • Preferred Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), CTS-Design, CTS-Installation, and/or other Extron certifications.
  • Preferred Skills: Reviewing pre-construction design documentations, ability to diagnose complex system problems within an AV system, experience programming AMX or Crestron systems.
  • Additional Information: N/AImpact & Influence: This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Audio Visual Support teams, project team members, department heads and managers within OIT and other academic and business offices across campus; contractors and consultants. This position typically will advise and counsel: principal, lead project managers, department heads, facilities, and CPSM. This position will supervise: AV Project Support and Contractor Management Team.
