Hofstra University is a dynamic community of more than 11,000 students from around the world who are dedicated to civic engagement, academic excellence and becoming leaders in their communities and their careers.Description:Reporting directly to the Senior Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for coordinating work on campus that includes supporting the mission of the department, Division of Student Affairs and Hofstra University.

The Assistant Director is responsible for supervision of intramural sport programs, assessments, department programs and initiatives. The Assistant Director is expected to forge productive working partnerships with students, colleagues, and offices across the University to enhance the contributions of all department programs, exercise classes and Fitness Center operations to encourage participation and enhance the co-curricular experience amongst all.

The Assistant Director of Campus Recreation will be directly responsible for the oversight of our comprehensive University-wide intramural sports program including recreation events implemented throughout the year. Responsibilities for this full time, evening shift position include: promotion, organization, recruitment, training and performance evaluations of student sport officials. The Assistant Director is also expected to develop and conduct department assessments and maintain statistical tracking.

The Assistant Director will supervise two graduate assistants working specifically with intramural and recreation program initiatives as well as the Group Exercise Instructors. The Assistant Director will assist with the daily management and operations and all aspects of the campus Fitness Center. This position will create and support a campus environment of community engagement while fulfilling the mission of the University and that of The Center.

Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to:
•Assist the Director in providing strong leadership in the organization and administration of the department.
•Maintain the daily upkeep of all facility needs and submit equipment repairs to proper resources.
•Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of all student staff.
•Assist with student staff payroll.
•Motivate and encourage department staff, facility patrons and program participants.
•Responsible for maintaining inventory of intramural equipment and making recommendations for the acquisition of new equipment and supplies to support programs while overseeing all storage accommodations.
•Assist with the management of department database of facility usage and intramural, club sport and group exercise class participation and develop monthly report measuring key performance indicators.
•Schedule facility outside events and maintain communication regarding programming needs.
•Create and design all promotional and technical material using the media resources available campus-wide including on-line class registration.
•Exercise sound judgement and independent initiative; handle time sensitive matters that require concise problem solving and a high degree of confidentiality.
•Serve on Division and University-wide committees.
•Participate as a Community Standards Board member.
•Attend applicable training sessions campus-wide.
•Speak at University wellness sessions, Admissions events, orientations and student club meetings.
•Monitor First Aid and equipment inventories.
•Manage current social media venues for department.
•Work closely with other departments such as Athletics, Summer Camps and Event Management regarding scheduling, supervision and facility guidelines.
•Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 2pm - 10pm; Friday 12pm - 8pm; Flexible weekends
Qualifications:Required Qualifications:
•Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year’s experience in a related field.
•Strong skills in program management, organization, communication and attention to detail.
•Experience in facility management.
•Ability to effectively supervise and support graduate and undergraduate staff and student leaders.
•Strong passion for excellence.
•A demonstrated commitment to the holistic development of diverse student populations.
•Technological competence, computer mastery using database software (Access and Excel), Microsoft Word, web content management system software and social media technologies.
•Proven aptitude as a communicator including superior written, oral and presentation skills.
•Ability to work effectively and ethically with a diverse population of students, university faculty/administrators, and community members.
•Ability to work under tight and changing deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
•Customer service friendly and keen ability to resolve situations in a professional manner.
•Ability to engage in public speaking forums.
•Display positive disposition and motivate other to excel.
•Possess maturity, ethical decision- making skills, discretion and flexibility.
•Flexible evening hours, and occasional weekend hours as assigned are required.
