The Patient-Reported Outcomes Core (PRO Core) at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill seeks a software developer with experience in building web-based applications in a production environment, to work with a dynamic existing team of software developers and staff who provide scientific support for researchers. Existing projects include a wide variety of cancer research, with research sites across the United States. To support these projects, we have developed a sophisticated web-based survey system (pro.unc.edu) that is also capable of administering automated phone surveys. The PRO Core will be developing new functionalities, integrating approaches from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), for example interactive interfaces like chatbots. The candidate should be interested in implementing these approaches. Candidates for this position do not need to be able to build AI/ML solutions from the ground up, but must have experience with building web-based applications in a production environment. We are looking for well-rounded candidates with excellent communication skills. We invite candidates who not only have the skills for this position, but are excited to join a team where we are passionate about improving the lives of cancer patients.

Educational Requirements

Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent years of work experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualified candidates will have experience with web (front-end) and database (back-end) development in a production environment. Additional required qualifications include strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication, analytical thinking, desire to learn new methods, as well as planning and organizational skills. Strong candidates will also have experience with health care, research studies or clinical trials, and UX/design. Experience working with any chatbot framework is a plus.
