The following position requires familiarity with the community college philosophy, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population.

TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor of Sociology (Tenure Track)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Department of Social Sciences / The School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

RESPONSIBILITIES: The School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences seeks a highly motivated and innovative full-time instructor to teach a variety of sociology courses. In addition to a teaching load of 15 contact hours per semester and 5 office hours per week, faculty members are expected to actively participate in departmental, school, and college-wide committees and activities, as well as demonstrate continuous professional development and commitment to the college culture.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master’s degree in Sociology and one year of college teaching in Sociology is required. Demonstrated innovation and enthusiasm toward student-centered teaching and mastery of instructional technology. Strong organizational and communication skills. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom. Of special interest is an entrepreneurial candidate with a background in quantitative sociology and management/manipulation of big data, who is willing to assist in assessing, reviewing, and developing the sociology offerings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field is strongly preferred. Community College teaching experience in Sociology is also preferred. Assess student learning – Demonstrate reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment. Manage classes and learning environments – Foster a positive classroom-learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners. Support learning through student engagement – Incorporate pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction
POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2019

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary $64,841 plus competitive benefits.
