Summary and Scope of Position: 

The Director of Student Advocacy and Prevention will be cognizant of the landscape regarding alcohol and drug prevention within higher education, and will develop strategies for promoting a healthy environment among students by working collaboratively with the Vice President for College and Community Engagement and the Dean of Students to develop, direct, and advance strategic planning initiatives in the areas of sexual misconduct, alcohol and other drug prevention, and comprehensive wellness education.  

Primary responsibilities

Leadership – lead the campus community in initiatives that promote a healthy living environment for students and that model national standards 

· Lead Student Affairs and other campus partners (such as Athletics and Institutional Research) in work that addresses sexual misconduct, alcohol and drugs, hazing, healthy
relationships, and conflict resolution. 

· Lead the strategic planning for student harm-reduction structures and programs, including but not limited to the current Event Director Program. 

· Implement NIAAA (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism) recommendations for best practices and ensure full compliance to national, state, and local laws. 

· Develop comprehensive conduct sanctions processes to address alcohol and other drug violations that align with the College Core questions and serve as a conduct hearing officer. 

 Outreach and Education –initiate, develop, and build resources and programming that helps the campus maintain a high level of awareness about alcohol and drug prevention  

· Develop programming specifically for first-year, student-athlete, and Greek affiliated populations, as well as other student cohorts, that align with college mission and meet federal
requirements. 

· Develop comprehensive student programs on topics including sexual misconduct, alcohol and drugs, hazing, healthy relationships, and conflict resolution.  

· Leverage technology to educate students through multiple mediums on important health and safety information. 

· Supervise wellness and prevention student groups, including the current Peer Advocate Program. 

· Manage prevention and education marketing and promotion efforts, including website, social media and printed resources.  

· Identify external funding and grant opportunities to support wellness education. 

· Educate the campus community about public health and prevention frameworks that can inform work with students, and on campus in other settings. 

Community Connections – identify resources both on and off campus that will support a community-based effort towards creating a healthy living environment for students.  

· Serve on Division and College committees as assigned. This includes participation on committees that promote health and well-being. 

· Continuously review practices, policies, and initiatives associated with prevention strategies to ensure that they promote a culture of diversity and inclusion and meet the needs of diverse student populations. 

· Develop campus surveys, assessments, and program evaluations, including the biannual review for alcohol and drug programs and policies in accordance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act. 

· Lead professional staff in trainings that enhance their own understanding and awareness of alcohol and drug prevention standards.  

· Establish and maintain community partnerships to deploy harm reduction strategies and to strengthen advocacy support resources.  

Qualifications:

· Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Development, Counseling, Public Health or related field. 

· Minimum of 10 years demonstrated experience in design, implementation, and evaluation of prevention and education programs to affect cultural change with college students, preferably at a residential liberal arts college. 

· Demonstrated commitment to diversity and competency in working with diverse student populations, including students of color, LGBTQ, first generation, and international students. 

· Knowledge of the principles of prevention work in sexual assault and relationship violence; psychological impact of trauma and implications for advocacy; prevention research and best practices related to the college campus setting; federal and state legislation related to sexual assault prevention and response. 

· Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills; Comfort with appropriate technologies; experience teaching/presenting to large groups. 

· Flexibility with work schedule. Must be able to work evening and occasional weekend hours. 

· Experience working with Residence Life, Greek Life, and Athletics and a working knowledge of Title IX compliance and investigations preferred.
