The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for the position of Department Head at the rank of Full Professor.

The ISE Department at Rensselaer (http://eng.rpi.edu/academics/departments/ise) is home to nationally ranked programs offering degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The history of Industrial Engineering at Rensselaer stretches uninterrupted from 1933 to the present with focus on addressing important societal challenges. Current ISE research spans and integrates the areas of operations research, data analytics, and cognitive systems engineering. Recent application domains include critical infrastructure, homeland security, on-demand supply chains, human-machine interaction, and brain dynamics. This work is supported by numerous federal, state and foundation awards, including three NSF CAREER awards to current faculty. The ISE curricula draw directly on cutting-edge research results and pedagogical innovations, and benefit from ongoing collaborations with other Rensselaer departments, most recently in the department’s new institute-wide minor in Data Science and Engineering. The department consists of eight tenure/tenure-track faculty, six affiliated faculty, five lecturers, approximately 170 undergraduate and 20 graduate students.

The ISE Department Head provides leadership and vision to enable the department’s growth and success, while also further enhancing its national and international visibility and impact. Responsibilities include facilitating the development of high-impact research, teaching, and service activities in the department, as well as engaging with industry, foundations, and alumni to advance the success and excellence of the Department. The position has primary oversight for administrative, budgetary, and promotion decisions for the Department. The Department Head, a tenured full Professor in ISE, reports to the Dean of the School of Engineering. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in an appropriate field, a scholarly record and reputation commensurate with the level of full professor, expertise as an educator, and a compelling vision for ISE at Rensselaer.
