Range: CL-44; $5,319 (Step A) or $5,625 (Step B) Monthly

Job Description
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, develop, plan, program and implement a variety of faculty and staff instructional design support services. Provide instructional design and technical assistance support to faculty and staff utilizing online instructional modalities. Collaborate with the Distance Education Coordinator, college administration, and District Information Systems personnel. Work under limited supervision within a broad framework of standards, policies and procedures, including Federal, State and college requirements pertaining to accessibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Administer the learning management system.
  • Assist in the development of courses using the institutionally adopted learning management system.
  • Assist and support faculty and staff with the institutionally adopted learning management system and supplementary tools.
  • Design, develop, and deliver workshops and training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices.
  • Train and provide consultation to faculty on technical and instructional design skills necessary for developing engaging and accessible courses.
  • Assist faculty with understanding and meeting accessibility compliance requirements for courses.
  • Train faculty and staff to design and produce learning materials in a variety of multimedia formats to support teaching and learning.
  • Work with faculty and staff to facilitate the creation, design and implementation of courses.
  • Provide assistance to faculty in technology tools and methods, use of instructional software, and effective uses of multimedia.
  • Research and make recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.
  • Communicate with faculty and staff to resolve problems, research solutions, consult with vendors, and prepare documentation.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings, seminars, trade shows, vendor demonstrations, and training sessions.
  • Serve as the primary campus support for faculty and staff problems and concerns regarding the learning management system(s).
  • Maintain currency in computing and educational technologies, resources and methods.
  • Participate in the planning for current and future college distance learning needs.
  • Demonstrate and utilize excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Serve on a variety of campus and district-wide committees.
  • Utilize strong instructional design skills and abilities.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
  • Provide design input, implementation and maintenance of Learning Management System (LMS) based instructional activities.
  • Implement and maintain web-based multi-media, including audio, video and software tools.
  • Maintain records for campus and district reporting needs.
  • Act as the secondary contact person for user questions related to the functionality of the college website and assist in resolving problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Theories and models of distance learning and instructional design.
  • Principles of human learning and cognition applied to design and use of technology-based learning systems.
  • Educational technology including methodologies used in teaching and learning.
  • Principles of LMS design and instructional material development.
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Learning management systems
  • Audio/video software tools.
  • Web presentation tools and methodologies.
  • Learning management tools, methodologies, and current industry trends.
  • Operation and capabilities of computer equipment.
  • Technical aspects in field of specialty.
  • Federal and State regulations for ADA Standards for Accessible Design and Section 508 compliance.

ABILITY TO:
  • Write and maintain HTML, CSS and JavaScript code that meets current web and accessibility standards.
  • Assist faculty with the design and development of an online learning course.
  • Train faculty and staff in the design and development of institutionally adopted learning management system and instructional materials.
  • Understand and independently carry out oral and written instructions. Apply task analysis methodologies.
  • Meet scheduled timelines.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn, interpret and successfully apply college policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Administer and communicate new learning management system releases.
  • Maintain currency of qualifications for area of assignment.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Train and provide work direction to others.
  • Work independently with little direction.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in information technology, educational technology, or a related field and at least two years of demonstrated professional and/or educational experience. Course work or certificate in Instructional Design preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office environment; subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling; subject to eyestrain and repetitive hand motions from computer; frequent interruptions.
