Job Details


Essential Functions

  • Plans, organizes and supervises the work of the shop through development of schedules, assignments of work, inspections, ordering of equipment and supplies and providing for emergency response. Supervises a staff of workers, including evaluating, counseling, taking disciplinary actions and making recommendations on hiring or dismissals.
  • Maintains records as required to provide adequate information on systems, purchase orders and bids, oversees the timely completion of work orders, reports and provides other reports and analyses as requested.
  • Implements preventive maintenance programs that achieve the objectives of decreasing reactive maintenance and cost.
  • Develops, implements, and ensures employee compliance with operating and safety procedures and trains employees in proper work and safety techniques.
  • Exercises fiscal responsibility by ensuring that equipment and supplies are inventoried and safeguarded, that materials and labor for the work performed are used effectively and that shop expenses do not exceed budgetary resources.
  • Designs new and major repair specifications, reviews plans for new construction projects and makes recommendations to improve maintainability, estimates cost, obtains permits, where applicable.
  • Performs work at the highest level in his or her area of expertise.
  • The foreman is responsible for the operation of his/her shop to include the duties listed above.
  • The shops are relatively autonomous, under the direction of the Assistant Director, Utilities and Energy Management as are the disciplinary actions.
  • All disciplinary actions are reviewed with the Assistant Director, Utilities and Energy Management prior to any action being taken.
  • The foreman will start the process of posting a vacant position and accept applicants and conduct interviews for vacant positions in the shop.
  • The foreman will also recommend any promotions that he/she feels is appropriate in the shop.
  • The recommendations will be made to the Assistant Director, Utilities and Energy Management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the following: methods, materials, tools, equipment, codes (e.g. OSHA, ADA, EPA, Building) and regulations of assigned area; occupational hazards, safety regulations and safety precautions of the trade; construction and operational principles of HVAC systems; some engineering concepts; principles of supervision; ability to apply University and Department policies and procedures consistently and fairly.
  • Ability to do the following: plan, assign and supervise effectively the work of others; operate a variety of equipment required for performance of duties; read, interpret and work from service manuals, blueprints, sketches, diagrams and technical systems; maintain a variety of records, prepare reports and order supplies using computerized and manual systems; prepare estimates of time and material required for work projects; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of professional, nonprofessional and skill trades personnel; respond to emergencies and work a flexible schedule when workload requires; work on a computerized work order system in order to distribute work and prepare summary reports of shop activities.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, equipment, codes, (e.g., OSHA, ADA, EPA, Building) and regulations of HVAC trade.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety regulations and safety precautions of the trade; knowledgeable working with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • City and County of Denver Journeyman certificates in Heating and Ventilating, and/or Refrigeration, and/or Steam and Hot Water
  • Five years' experience in the trade
  • Five years' experience supervisory experience

    Please note, this position will also require a valid Colorado driver's license and insurable by the University of Denver's insurance carrier and a post-offer, pre-employment health screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A certificate in Heating and Ventilation, and/or Refrigeration, and/or Steam and Hot Water
  • Kronos Timekeeping, ArcGIS Explorer Mapping for campus utilities, EnergyCap -energy management software, Building Automation systems software (Johnson Controls (Metasys), Trane (Tracer Summit), Long, Centennial Controls and Performance management system.

Pay

The pay for this position is $28.61 - $33.15 hourly
