The mission of the Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS) is to imagine, investigate, and implement innovative classified and unclassified solutions for a variety of tactical and strategic analytic challenges. A Government team with professional knowledge in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and non-STEM disciplines, in collaboration with correspondingly diverse academic and industry Contractors, will create advanced technology and analysis tradecraft in accordance with the U. S. Intelligence Community objective to maintain global awareness and strategic foresight. The Contractor workforce shall provide consultation, engineering, research, development, test, evaluation, and assessment services to improve the mission of the LAS and enhance related research and mission endeavors.

Essential Job Duties

The Software Developer work directly with our government, industry, and academic partners to develop prototype applications based upon a variety of multi-disciplinary research efforts that comprise our core focus areas of Structured Analytic Techniques, Sensemaking, and Analytics. Additionally, the Software Developer will work with commercial companies, government, and academic partners to develop applications that create new analytic capabilities by formulating system requirements, designing integrated approaches, evaluating proposed designs, advising on alternative approaches, and building & testing prototypes.

This position would be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:
1) Collaboration with government, industry, and academic partners to develop prototype applications to enhance analyst processes and products. This includes analyzing the feasibility of business requirements, conceiving innovative solutions, implementing ad-hoc solutions, and assisting the team on technical matters.
2) Performs self-directed applied research transitioning ideas, theories, and methodologies published in academic journals into working prototypes.
3) Sets up data access infrastructure to support analysis efforts.
4) Manages multiple part-time student software developers.
5) Assists with managing the LAS computing environment.
6) Performs other relevant duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree or a B.S. in engineering or computer science background, with three years of professional software development experience

Departmental Required Skills

• Architecting, designing, building, and deploying complex software systems
• Full-stack web development
• User interface development using Javascript
• Ability to work with public and private REST APIs
• Writing software in object-oriented languages such as Java, or Python
• Writing shell-level scripts and linux system administration
• Ability to work with virtualized environments such as Amazon’s AWS or Microsoft’s Azure
• Building and deploying containers
• Applicable knowledge of version control systems, issue tracking, and build systems
• Comfortable working with academic researchers to identify applications of basic research concepts.
• Comfortable working directly with government and commercial contractor stakeholders and developers in a collaborative working environment.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• Experience translating important concepts from technical research papers into prototype implementations
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Self-starter as well as be able to maintain a positive and helping attitude.

Required License or Certification

Current TS/SCI security clearance and full-scope polygraph (or eligible to obtain within one year of the start date of employment). Retention of TS/SCI clearance is mandatory.
