Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The SES Department offers programs in Special Education, Birth through Kindergarten (BK), and Professions in Deafness. It includes full-time faculty who have a history of success procuring external funding for both research and development of service providers, teachers, researchers and leaders. The Special Education program area offers CAEP (NCATE) accredited initial teacher licensure programs in special education: general curriculum, the dual major in elementary education and special education, a post baccalaureate alternative licensure (PAIL) program in special education: general curriculum, a Master’s program in special education, and a Ph.D. program in special education, with doctoral scholars focused on several areas of special education.

The Department offers Bachelors degree programs in Advocacy and Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, K-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Licensure, and Interpreter Preparation. In addition, the Birth-Kindergarten program offers a Master’s degree in Birth-Kindergarten and a post-baccalaureate initial licensure program-BKIL.

Position Summary

This position will be a Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Special Education Program within the Department of Specialized Education Services (SES). The effort of this position will be allocated as follows: (a) 50% of the effort is allocated to SES in providing instructional capacity through teaching courses in Special Education initial licensure and graduate programs, as well as supervising field placements of pre-service teachers; (b) 50% of the effort is allocated to Beyond Academics providing programmatic expertise and research support in implementing and evaluating best practices for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in higher education.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate in Special Education or related field (by July 2019)

Documented evidence of exemplary teaching experience in higher education

Experience teaching students with high-incidence disabilities in K-12 settings

Evidence of service to schools, a university, and/or professional organizations

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

Experience with credentialing and licensure programs

Experience with program development for pre-service and in-service teachers

Experience with synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid course development and delivery

Engagement in scholarly work with evidence of conference presentations, grant activities, or publications

Knowledge and experience with edTPA requirements
