TheUniversity Library seeks a Digital Asset Management System Developer to leadits in-progress efforts to design, implement, and maintain its future digitalasset management system. Based on the Samvera/Hyrax institutional repositorysoftware (a Ruby/Rails based application framework), the system will provideaccess to the library's digital collections. The Digital Asset ManagementSystem Developer will work with the Web Services and the Digital Projects unitsto design, develop, and support the library's future digital asset managementsystem. He/she will develop and maintain documentation, train and work withother developers, and write code consistent with the Samvera and the Ruby onRails community standards. The Programmer Lead will also manage GSU's relationship with theSamvera developer community, staying aware of its activities and participatingin its development efforts.

Relevantexperience includes experience with Ruby on Rails and common libraries such asRSpec; an understanding of Ruby syntax and nuances; an understanding ofobject-oriented programming; a basic understanding of front-end technologies(JavaScript, CSS, and HTML); an understanding of Git code versioning tools; anda familiarity with automated testing platforms and unit tests. Responsibilitieswill include but are not limited to the following:

•            Develop, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot software applications in supportof the library's goals, including analyzing user requirements for systemfeatures and functionality, developing software requirements documents,original programming, documenting and commenting code, system testing, andcreating comprehensive software documentation.

•            Coordinate with Network System Administrators to manage and maintainapplication servers (Linux) and related database management systems (MySQL,PostgreSQL).

•            Partner with an open source communities to improve code and optimize coresystem functionality to meet the library's needs; adapt and adopt technologiesand methods from open source projects and contribute to them through code,process, and community contributions.

•            Research, evaluate, and direct the implementation of new and existing softwarefeatures, emerging technologies, and development tools.


•            Work with library project stakeholders to develop and enhance theadministrative and front-facing design and operations of the library's digitalasset management system and participate in department, project, and stakeholdermeetings.



QualificationsBachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
