Research Technician 2 - Center for Functional and Molecular Imaging

Requirements

The Center for Functional and Molecular Imaging (CFMI) at Georgetown University Medical Center consists of faculty, research assistants, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students with expertise in structural, functional and molecular brain imaging. We combine brain imaging with behavioral methods to explore the neural mechanisms of thought, feeling, movement and perception and to explore the mechanisms underlying the acquisition of cognitive and sensorimotor skills.
The Research Technician 2 works with investigators on extending current fMRI acquisition and analysis techniques as well as carrying out research. This position has two principle components: running the 3.0T MRI scanner and carrying out the research studies underway in the lab. Reporting to the Associate Professor of the program, the Research Technician 2 has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Aids in statistical and neuroimaging data pre-processing and analysis for the various research studies being conducted in the lab.
  • Uses highly technical software packages to analyze functional MRI and structural MRI data.
  • Develops expertise in the following data analysis software packages: SPSS, SPM, FreeSurfer, and Conn.
  • Assists in manuscript preparation, which includes preparing the appropriate figures and graphs, writing sections of the manuscript for which they have the most direct knowledge such as the Methods, and the background parts of the Introduction sections.
  • Operates the MRI scanner independently for multiple users, ensuring the safety of the subjects and accurate collection of the MRI data.
  • Provides support for technical MRI troubleshooting and helps users as necessary with the equipment used for fMRI scans.
  • Provides technical support in the operations of the CFMI, implements Quality Control (QC) procedures, and sets up a real-time fMRI analysis system.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; A degree in relevant fields such as psychology, neuroscience, computer science, or biomedical engineering is preferred
  • One year of experience working in a research lab
  • Knowledge of specific MRI protocols and techniques specific to certain users (for example, fMRI, DTI, and spectroscopy)
