• Master’s in Higher Education, Communication, Counseling, STEM or a related field required
•At least 3-years’ experience in higher education, including experience with
research/scholarly activities and/or grad. admissions required
•At least 1-year’s experience in higher education administration, including budget, data & personnel management required
•Knowledge of spreadsheet computing applications required
•Knowledge of TRIO Programs or a TRIO alumnus required
•Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of disadvantaged students required
•Shown ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds required
•Strong communication and organizational skills required
•Ability to keep flexible schedule (evenings & weekends) required
•Security sensitive position

Preferred

•PhD in Higher Education, Communication, Counseling, STEM or a related field;
•Knowledge of McNair Program.
•Bilingual in Spanish/English
•Background similar to those of target population

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct McNair informational presentations
•Prepare & release project promotional campaign
•With project staff, develop and implement all services to meet the McNair
Program objectives.
•Administer the annual budget
•Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate McNair staff
•Serve as the Program liaison to departments, administrators and community
agencies
•Regularly meet individually and in groups with participants to provide information and assistance supporting academic progress and postbaccalaureate entry and completion
•Assist participants with exploration, goal setting, planning, and follow through
•Monitor participant progress
•Manage data for reports and evaluation of participants’ performance and
attainment of project objectives
•Plan & coordinate graduate school visitations, workshops, events, & internships for Scholars
•Oversee the recruitment, selection, academic needs and needed services of/for participants
•Track academic and career endeavors of participants
•Prepare and distribute semi-annual newsletter to Sul Ross admin., faculty and staff, participants, local media sources, and on McNair website

Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
Position is Security Sensitive.

Other Information

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.
