Student Life Program Director (Civic Engagement)

Description

Job Purpose: Responsible for the design, implementation, management, and evaluation for one or more Student Life Programs. Serves as a campus agent in promoting programs and coordinates student involvement and support for those opportunities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative leadership and support services for one or more unique Student Life Programs. Advises student programs, organizations and groups.
  • Oversees all administrative aspects of the program including budget development, office resources, records management, etc. Responsible for project direction, coordination, planning, design, and management.
  • Participates in creating assessment tools and evaluates program initiatives.
  • Serves as a liaison between staff, faculty, and the community.
  • Develops and conducts workshops in area of expertise. Provide advice and support to faculty and staff members in service learning or co-curricular programs.Provide resources and training for students related to safety and liability issues involved in programming.
  • Writes and disseminates material to assist students in making informed decisions and/ or explain university policies and procedures.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and formal leadership training of student leaders.
  • Develop marketing and promotion student programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work Experience: Four to six years of job related experience
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Skills: This job requires the ability to work independently; excellent communication skills (verbal and written); proven project management experience and organizational skills; ability to multi-task with multiple deadlines; basic knowledge of office related computer applications.

Previous experience with student information systems for higher education (i.e. Banner).

Additional Information: This position may require work outside of normal business hours and/or travel.

Civic Engagement at Georgia Tech promotes avenues for student learning and global awareness to nurture the development of responsible, global citizens who are committed to community building in the intricate, multi-layered world. In this role, Program Director – Civic Engagement, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising service-based student organizations on community service best practices,implementing days of service such as the MLK Day of Service, and supervising the Jumpstart program at Georgia Tech. A major component of the role is advising Alternative Service Breaks (ASB), which includes promotion of student leadership developmentplanning and facilitation of workshops, trainings, or retreats; and experience with risk management as it relates to community service programming. The ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders, including community partners and campus departments, and communicate effectively is essential.

Impact & Influence: This position will interact on a consistent basis with: student, parents, faculty members, representatives of community organizations. This position typically will advise and counsel: students and campus representatives. This position may supervise: students, interns and staff.
