Associate/Professor of Epidemiology
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut currently seeks for its Department of Epidemiology and Population Health (EPHD) a candidate with a doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or related fields, for a tenure track position in the rank of assistant, associate or full professor, depending on qualifications. Visiting positions at all levels may be considered. The Department launched its first PhD Program in Epidemiology in the AY 2019-20 and is in the process of seeking approval for a Master’s Program in Biostatistics.
The candidate should have proven record of teaching biostatistics for undergraduate and graduate students, advising and mentoring graduate and medical students and conducting independent research evidenced by peer-reviewed published articles.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the:
- Teaching of basic and advanced biostatistics courses to undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctoral) students as well as to the mentoring of students in their theses and research work. Courses include but are not limited to theoretical foundations of statistics, survival data analysis, regression and ANOVA, generalized linear mixed models and analysis of high-throughput data
- Expansion of graduate education at FHS at the Masters and Doctoral levels
- Development of applied quantitative research in the fields of biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical research and population studies in collaboration with other biostatisticians, public health or medical professionals.
- Outreach programs at the Faculty, participating in professional service.
As part of its Graduate Public Health Program (GPHP), FHS offers an MPH program in three concentrations and two MS degrees. The GPHP has been accredited by the US Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) since 2006. The EPH Department currently hosts an MPH concentration in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, an MS in Epidemiology, a PhD in Epidemiology, and an MS in Clinical Research (SHARP, jointly with Faculty of Medicine). The EPHD department also contributes to teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs at FHS and public health teaching in the Faculty of Medicine.
