The Business intelligence (Bl) Analyst is a key member of the Information Delivery, Management and Architecture (IDMA) team within the Financial Management Services (FMS) group. The Bl Analyst focuses on ServiceNow support and acts as the primary liaison between IDMA, the Financial Support Center (FSC), and the university's financial reporting users. This person also functions as a liaison between IDMA and the technical development team to resolve bugs and further enhance the Evolve Financial Reporting (EFR) Business Intelligence dashboard reports and ad hoc subject areas, and also contributes to the development of new BI solutions. Additionally, the BI Analyst helps with Data Stewardship for Finance at Stanford to ensure that Finance data and metadata follows the university's governance standards.
CORE DUTIES*:
Duties, Responsibilities and Role:
  • Prioritize and manage the ServiceNow EFR queue. Function as the primary liaison between IDMA and the Financial Support Center (FSC).
  • Coordinate recurring meetings with FSC and work closely to resolve EFR related issues.
  • Establish service level agreement (SLA) between IDMA and FSC, and between IDMA and business owners in the FMS group, with responsibility for upstream systems and business processes (e.g., Procurement).
  • Establish and refine metrics based on SLAs and the Evolve Financial Reporting (EFR) program objectives.
  • Compile and analyze weekly performance metrics (e.g., throughput, delivery on SLAs, user satisfaction).
  • Communicate, present, and make recommendations for continuous improvement in EFR support process based on data and analysis.
  • With a good understanding of Stanford's business processes, promptly identify the non-EFR related issues and reassign to other groups.
  • Coordinate ServiceNow tickets workload by assigning to team members based on their knowledge and strength. Ensure that priorities are well-documented and executed on by the team.
  • Coordinate with the operational support queue lead, using JIRA, and work closely with the technical development team to rapidly address production support issues and improve the existing financial Bl dashboards, reports, and ad hoc subject areas.
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing for issues and enhancements, and design and execute effective and efficient Bl test cases.
  • Attend and facilitate working sessions with central and distributed users and managers to identify and document business needs for financial reporting.
  • Help with the development of key project deliverables and artifacts such as business requirements documents, functional design documents, fit/gap analyses, and report mockups.
  • Work closely with BI data architects and developers to ensure solutions meet all functional business needs.
  • Facilitate and support the use and development of OBIEE Analysis-based reports and dashboards for central and distributed use cases.
  • Support ongoing training for end users and participate in EFR OBI Open Labs.
  • Help the lead of the Finance Data Stewardship group with responsibility for developing and enhancing business metadata, including establishing official names and definitions for Finance concepts and terms. Review EFR data enhancements to ensure consistency in names, definitions, and placement in the OBI ad hoc presentation layer. Maintain Finance business metadata in Stanford's Data Governance Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, computer science, or engineering.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Good understanding of Oracle E-Business Suite and related business processes.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, strategic thinking skills, process-oriented mindset, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Extensive experience working with business users (finance users preferred)
  • Experience eliciting, interpreting, and documenting business requirements preferably in the context of Bl or reporting initiatives.
  • Prior success in positions requiring indirect leadership and high levels of self-directed work..
  • Proven experience in facilitating large and diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated experience with Business Intelligence tools.
  • Expertise in MS Excel and extensive use of its advanced analytical capabilities including pivot tables and lookup and reference formulas.
  • data analysis, and data visualization skills preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Analysis/Answers preferred.
  • Previous higher education and Stanford University experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Rarely writing by hand; lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
