The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is accepting applications for an Associate Vice Provost for Student Success reporting to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Academic Programs. This is a full-time, 12-month academic professional position.

Job Summary:
The Associate Vice Provost functions as chief advisor to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Academic Programs on student success matters. The position is key in the development and implementation of student success initiatives to increase undergraduate student retention and graduation rates, and eliminate achievement gaps. The Associate Vice Provost works directly with senior campus leaders to develop, review, and oversee student success programs.

Duties include:
• Serve as chief advisor to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs (VPUAAP) to drive the development and implementation of OVPUAAP’s strategic plans. Present status reports on initiatives and progress towards goals.
• With the VPUAAP, establish, monitor and evaluate the goals of the Office. Monitor student success literature and best practices at peer institutions; ensure dissemination of information to appropriate members of the OVPUAAP team and other senior leaders at UIC, and ensure UIC practices are not only in line with accepted national standards, but are city-wide and national models to be followed.
• Review materials, data and best practices to develop and recommend policies, programs and initiatives as part of UIC’s ongoing efforts to improve student success.
• Provide leadership for the development of programs that will increase student success as measured by first-to-second-year retention and graduation rates, and academic achievement parity among racial, ethnic, low-income and first-generation student groups.
• Provide senior management review of student success initiatives and make recommendations for new programming and enhancements to existing programming.
• Provide leadership to develop program, organizational and financial plans. Recommend and draft policies, and advocate for procedures related to undergraduate success.
• Develop and lead assessments of initiatives. Work collaboratively with Assistant Vice Provost and Data Analyst on data collection and analysis.
• Provide leadership to staff engaged in undergraduate success, including, but not limited to, the directors of the Office of First-Year Initiatives, Office of Project Management on Student Success Initiatives, Office of High School Development.
• Represent the Vice Provost on various on- and off-campus committees and working groups.
• Provide programmatic analysis across the OVPUAAP and reporting units.
• With OVPUAAP Director of Operations, monitor budget and ensure spending is appropriate.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree required, doctorate or equivalent terminal degree preferred. Minimum of eight years of demonstrated experience in higher education is required, with at least five years of administrative/supervisory experience in undergraduate higher education. Solid organizational and analytical skills to prioritize, take initiative, follow projects through completion, and manage multiple tasks/projects. Excellent leadership, written communication and public speaking skills. Demonstrated ability to work with confidential and sensitive material. Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office suite products.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with undergraduate student success and retention/persistence strategies is preferred. Experience in strategic planning, applied institutional research and analysis, and educational assessment is preferred. Ability to translate data report conclusions into usable information for decision-making and programs is preferred.

Experience building and working in collaborative teams is preferred. Grant writing experience is preferred.
