Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Accountant III General Ledger & Treasury. This position performs a high level of accounting operations: reconciliation, analysis and reporting; primarily involving general ledger journal entries, and treasury accounting services. Position is responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, generating complex reports, related treasury and cash services, as well as monthly and year-end financial system close processes. Serves as backup for the Director of Accounting regarding financial reporting on an interim and annual basis. Works with PeopleSoft financial system and Microsoft Office as well as with senior management, other employees in the Comptroller’s office, all University stakeholders. Prepares specialized accounting reports required by the Board of Regents; verifies accuracy and validity of posting and accounting transactions; monthly and year-end general ledger close process, loading interfaces from subsidiary ledgers and posting subsystem journal into the GL. Reviews expenditures, revenues, and other entries in the financial system for compliance with GAAP, USG, and University policies and procedures. Assists the Director of Accounting with the preparation of complex financial reports. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required; an advanced degree is desired. Must have a minimum of five years of experience in a complex accounting environment; governmental accounting is desired. Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to work independently; and professional communication skills to work with employees of the University and external parties required. Must be able to perform high level accounting duties and assists with other assignments; with ability to perform high level accounting processes in an advanced general ledger system (PeopleSoft), subsidiary ledgers (Banner) and be proficient in the use of Excel; background and/or credit check may be required.
