Basic Function

Adjunct instructors needed to teach Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses offered at the Northern Virginia Community College Medical Education Campus in Springfield, Virginia. Courses may cover a variety of topics in general (abdominal and ob/gyn), vascular, pediatric, musculoskeletal, or breast sonography; and/or echocardiography per program needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and/or spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. Instruction may be during the day, evening, or weekend depending on program scheduling. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Current professional registry credential such as RDMS, RVT, RDCS, RVS, or RCS; evidence of professional experience as a Sonographer within the last 3 years; and either an Associate of Applied Science (or equivalent degree or certificate) in a Sonography discipline or Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Multiple professional registry credentials (e.g. RDMS abdomen and ob/gyn, RDMS and RVT, RVT and RDCS, etc.); prior teaching experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of instructional technologies (e.g. Canvas). Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. Skilled in teaching lecture, online/hybrid, and/or hands-on laboratory courses.
