Position Description

Teach five doctoral level courses per year:

1.Signal and Systems: Principles of electricity, acoustics and electronics as it pertains to the study of audiology and hearing sciences. Basics of signal processing for hearing aids and equipment that measure hearing. IEC/ANSI standards of performance for the instrumentation, calibration procedures, and compliance.

2.Audiological Assessment II: Evaluation of middle ear function by using the principles of acoustic immittance. Principles underlying otoacoustic emissions. Implementation of tests and formulation of diagnosis based on test results.

3.Research Methods: Introduction to research methods used in audiology. Statistical analyses in descriptive and experimental research.

4.Hearing Disorders: Etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the outer, middle, inner ear and the central auditory system. Syndromic and non-syndromic genetic disorders along with their impact on the development and function of the auditory system.

5.Industrial Audiology: Introduction to the basic principles of sound and its measurement, including Damage Risk Criteria and its application to noise-induced hearing loss will be addressed, as well as components of hearing conservation programs in a variety of settings and evaluation of their effectiveness in the prevention of hearing.
Develop and maintain a research program that includes publication, and dissemination of original research projects developed and conducted here at the University. Faculty are also expected to serve on department, college and university level committees, as well as serve as advisors to doctoral students.

Basic Qualifications

Doctor of Philosophy in Audiology, Hearing Science or related discipline. Foreign degree equivalent is accepted.

Additional Qualifications Physical Requirements

Requires extended periods of sitting & standing; occasional walking and infrequent bending and stooping.
Work is primarily performed in a standard classroom environment.
