Program Attorney, Continuing Legal Education - Georgetown University Law Center

The Department of Academic Conferences and Continuing Legal Education provides high quality educational opportunities for lawyers and law-related professionals to fulfill their life-long learning needs. Georgetown Law CLE has an established tradition with more than 30 years of experience providing the legal community high quality programs. Our programs and products are developed with the profession's ever-changing needs in mind, while simultaneously meeting the mandatory CLE requirements of state bars.

The Program Attorney plays an important role in developing and executing the department's strategic vision. This position is responsible for creating and implementing approximately 10 CLE programs which generate over 50% of the
department's annual revenue and attract more than 1200 attendees annually. The Program Attorney's duties include but are not limited to:
  • Working closely with many CLE program Advisory Boards, Planning Committees, and CLE faculty, including federal and state judges, federal agency heads, law firm senior partners and corporate general counsels
  • Managing program budgets that include expenses such as speaker travel, lodging and meals, speaker honoraria, catering, course materials, marketing and CLE accreditation. Each program budget usually includes approximately $150,000 in revenue and $60,000 in expenses. Larger program budgets can include $600,000 in revenue and $250,000 in expenses.
  • Managing CLE Advisory Boards, which includes motivating, directing, and monitoring approximately 500 volunteer attorneys annually. These volunteers, who possess very little time and very high expectations, help design, mode rate, speak, and write materials for CLE in-person and online programs.
  • Managing Advisory Board development and succession planning.
  • Implementing the department's online curriculum.
  • Follows University contract guidelines to negotiate hotel contracts for the most significant CLE programs and co-sponsorship agreements with national associations, law firms or other organizations, which are critical to the department's financial performance.

Qualifications
  • At least three years of professional experience.
  • JD required unless candidate has previous high- level CLE or program planning experience.
  • Experience in project management, including balancing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in helping start up new projects from inception and building new in-person and online programs and projects into successful revenue generators.
  • Proficiency with basic software programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have ability to work proficiently in database systems and event management systems.
  • Training will be provided, but ability to learn new technologies quickly is required.
  • Ability to monitor, and evaluate budgetsfor major projects is necessary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. High emotional intelligence. Great attention to detail. Ability to balance many tasks and projects. Skill at prioritizing. Ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to diverse persons in the legal profession.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Salesforce or CRM system preferred.
  • Experience in CLE or legal community preferred.
  • Experience in seminar planning a plus.
