Job Description

Occupational Summary

Plan, develop, implement and assist in managing the Case Managementprogram activities for multiple clinical service units at DukeUniversity Hospital.

Work Performed

Plan, develop, implement and promote a program of clinical social workactivities for multiple in and outpatient service units andsites.Provide leadership and management to department ofmultidisciplinary staff including social workers, nurses, and supportstaff.Recruit, hire, orient, promote, and initiate performancepartnership process and disciplinary process for all staff supervised.Coordinate and provide adequate staffing and coverage for clinicalsocial work needs for multiple clinical service units, includingsubstance abuse and mental health consults. Insure all units areappropriately covered on day-to-day basis. Manage on-callsystem.Provide clinical supervision to team leaders and otherstaff, meeting both requirements of the Department and NC Certificationand Licensure Board. Supervise and coordinate administrative servicesassociated with the management of the division.Work withmanagement of clinical service units to participate in programplanning, identifying clinical social work needs, and resolvingproblems. Organize activities with other departments/units to ensureefficient coordination of services.Determine fiscalrequirements and assist in budget preparation for department. Monitor,verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds, including thepreparation of monthly variance reports.Maintain relevantstatistics. Authorize expenditure of hospital funds for indigent careto include housing, travel, meals, medications as recommended by staffin the Social Work Department.Plan, coordinate and conductstaff meetings to ensure compliance with established practices andregulatory requirements, to implement new policies, and providecommunication to staff, Provide teaching to staff to enhance clinicalknowledge, maintain licensure and other areas.Plan, coordinate,and provide appropriate outcomes measurements for social workactivities.Provide leadership to departmental committee,participate in hospital committees and meetings, provide consultationand teaching to other Duke departmental staff andfaculty.Maintain liaison with community agencies andparticipate in related activities.Assist Director inadministrative functions and assume the duties and responsibilities ofDirector as needed.Perform other related duties incidental tothe work described herein.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and relationaldatabases desired.Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills,interpersonal & team building skills.

Education

BSN or MSW required; Masters degree in a healthcare field

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of related experience required.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolinaor current licensure as a licensed clinical social worker by the NCSocial Work Certification and Licensure Board. Requires certification asa Case Manager or Accredited Case Manager or by December 31, 2017 forcurrent staff.
