BENEFITS

SUMMARY

This position assists the Chef instructor during scheduled Extended Educational Services (EES) class times and special events. The assistant will aid in setting up for class, guiding volunteers and assisting students (both independently and as directed to by the instructor) during class, and insuring the kitchen is in order and sanitized after class. The ideal candidate will be energetic, highly dependable, and show attention to detail. This position requires a flexible schedule, and availability to work nights and weekends as needed.



REQUIRED

  • Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in commercial kitchen or related area.
  • ServeSafe Sanitation Certificate or equivalent.

    PREFERRED
  • Minimum of two years of training at the Great Lakes Culinary Institute or similar institution.
  • Related work experience in preparing baked goods and savory food products.
  • Experience working with volunteers or students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Carry keys. Lock and unlock classroom, kitchen and storage areas.
  • Assist instructor and volunteers with classroom set up.
  • Model good safety and sanitation practices. Guide volunteers and students in doing the same.
  • Assist students with basic culinary skills.
  • Monitor use of ingredients.
  • Monitor use of equipment.
  • Assist instructor and volunteers with classroom clean up.
  • Insure classroom, kitchen and storage areas meet expectations of the next class.
