The World’s First Business School

In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Today, Wharton has expanded the scope of this vision to become the most comprehensive source of business knowledge in the world – with over 225 faculty members, 95,000 alumni, 5,000 students across 10 academic departments, 20 research centers, and more than 9,000 executive education participants annually.


Position is located in San Francisco. Reports to and supports Executive Director (ED), with a dotted line to the business manager in the MBA Division, on complex and confidential administrative duties, including compliance reporting. Manages appointments, travel arrangements and some presentation prep. The Financial Coordinator maintains the MBA for Executives (WEMBA) SF budget by processing payment requests from vendors (hotel, books, materials, etc) and travel expense reimbursements from faculty and staff who support the WEMBA Program. This individual coordinates efforts with the Business Manager for the MBA Division, located in Philadelphia, and other departments who interact with WEMBA SF. Reviews monthly budget with ED, processes journal entries, creates purchase orders and processes invoices in a timely manner. Collaborates with Exec Director on forecasting/spending predictions for current budget and on new budget preparation. Provides onsite support for WEMBA SF Admissions and outreach activities. Hires, trains and approves schedules and time sheets for part-time/temp staff.


A high school diploma/ GED and 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required; bachelor’s degree and 3 -5 years of experience in office environment strongly preferred. Outstanding communication skills and organizational skills are essential to this position and previous administrative experience is strongly preferred. Understanding of bookkeeping and budget management with great attention to detail is required. Must have excellent telephone and email etiquette and service orientation. Fluency in MS Office suite with intermediate skills in Excel, Word and Powerpoint required.
This is a full time position, must be available Monday through Friday with ability to provide support for occasional evening or weekend events. Ability to manage various tasks and prioritize activities daily and monthly is required. Individual must be able to work collaboratively in a small office environment. Position is located in San Francisco. No relocation offered. Some training in Philadelphia will be required.
