Duties

This position manages the overall operations of the Wharton Risk Center; oversees all business, financial and human resources responsibilities; and assists in strategic growth planning. This position will supervise two direct reports, the Center Coordinator and the Events Manager/Faculty Assistant. This position has a dual reporting relationship and reports directly both to the Center’s Executive Director and the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration.

Financial responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: financial management of business activity; preparation and monitoring of total annual operating budget including gifts, endowments, and special purpose funds; accounting; purchasing; payroll; human resources; and general administration. This person will also manage all grant activity. This includes managing the proposal development process, budget development and related pre-award and post-award issues for all grants, as well as diverse sponsored-research portfolio. This person will assist with all aspects of proposal submission (electronic and paper submissions) and necessary follow-up to confirm proper acceptance by sponsor. They will apply knowledge of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance. They will manage post-award processes including monitoring and review of all charges to sponsored projects, reconciliation of accounts, sub award management, and production of monthly financial reports for Principal Investigators, including fund projections etc. Monitor compliance to sponsor guidelines. This person will routinely meet with PIs.

This person will also assist the Executive Director in a growth and development strategy for the Center. This will include fundraising strategy done in partnership with Wharton External Affairs. It will require strategically targeting new grants and sponsor relationships and aligning resource growth and partnerships with the Center’s strategic priorities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience in grant and research administration, preferably at Penn. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently, problem solve and multi-task. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Business Objects, BEN Financials and PennERA. This person will have outstanding organizational skills, a history with grants management and organization operations.
