Faculty Nursing, Mental Health (Open Rank)

I. Position Summary

Full-time, non tenure or tenure track faculty status with a specialization in community health nursing, maternal child, medical surgical, mental health, or pediatrics. Oversees the curriculum and activities of all related courses.
 

II. Position Responsibilities

1. Teach full load as defined in the Eastern University Faculty Handbook.
2. Integrate Christian faith and the Christian world view with teaching, scholarship and practice.
3. Demonstrate ongoing commitment to and support of the Christian beliefs, values and objectives of the University as embodied in its Doctrinal, Mission and Goal Statements.
4. Model Christian lifestyles by engaging in conduct consistent with biblical teaching and with the Community.
5. Possess substantial training and experience as a professional in the area of clinical specialty.
6. Model life-long learning to students.
7. Demonstrate ability to integrate theory and practice.
8. Provide remediation in specialty area to pre-licensure students whose ATI test scores are below Level Two competency.
9. Participate in academic planning by serving on committees and other governance bodies, as elected or appointed, and by participating in meetings of the University faculty, those of the academic program(s) to which they have been appointed, as well as faculty workshops, academic convocations and commencement exercises.
10. Support all University events, such as chapel and lecture series.
11. Support selected student activities by attendance, participation or sponsorship.
12. Assist in the recruitment, admission, orientation and retention of students.
13. Be knowledgeable about academic policies, curricula and services of the University, as stated in current catalogs as well as faculty and student handbooks, particularly with regard to the degree requirements for students in the academic program(s) to which they have been appointed, and the services available to students who are experiencing difficulties, and to make referrals when appropriate.
14. Provide academic and professional advising to students enrolled in the academic program(s) to which they have been appointed. Faculty are expected to be available to students for advising and consulting outside of class for a minimum of six hours per week, as appropriate and announced to the students served.
15. Conduct courses in an organized manner, including preparation of syllabi according to the official “Guidelines,” planning classroom presentations and discussions, and evaluation of student learning assignments, returning these in a timely manner.
16. Return class lists, grade sheets and other required reports to the Registrar’s Office by the established deadlines.
17. Motivate and encourage the students who take their classes, as well as others with whom they come into personal contact.
18. Remain current with advances in the discipline(s) of instruction and effectively implement these in the classroom.
19. Uphold academic professional ethics, as set forth in the Statement on Professional Ethics (1995) of the American Association of University Professors.
20. Evaluate regularly own teaching and administrative effectiveness and seek continuous professional improvement by means of study, continuing education, mentoring and attendance at professional meetings and faculty development programs, submitting the “Faculty Professional Activity Report” and “Faculty Self-Evaluation and Development Plan” when due.
21. Work and cooperate constructively with administrators and committees exercising oversight in collegial, responsible fashion.
22. Serve on one University-wide Committee.
23. Serve on one Department Committee.
24. Attend Department of Nursing, University Faculty, and Division meetings.
25. Maintain and revise delegated curriculum modules/course for BSN programs once a year and as needed.
26. For tenure track- Participate actively in the scholarly community by contributing to scholarship through involvement in individual and collaborative research and by sharing the results with colleagues and students through lectures, seminars, publication and the like.
 

 III. Knowledge and Skills Required

MSN with the focus on nursing specialty area. Doctorate in nursing or related field preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, customer service orientation, computer literacy (Microsoft Office, , etc.), and a keen attention to detail are required. Experience with nontraditional and traditional nursing education , helpful. The abilities to independently establish priorities and attain goals and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information are essential. Must be able to work in a team environment. It is essential that the incumbent exhibits an understanding of and support for the University’s evangelical Christian mission.
